Hi all, wishful thinking on my part, but seeing how Feb. is almost done -spring has to be just around the corner right?? In light of this, i am trying to gather up all the required gear I may need. so I am wondering what do you all wear or take on your hunts? I realize that depending on weather, pants and foot wear may change, but how do you carry all your tools, and finds, and trash and drinks, and..and..and..?
Welcome to the forum! It's great that your planning ahead so that you'll be ready to go when this snow finally does melt away. Here's a list of some of the equipment i usually bring along.
My Primary equipment
Clothing ( as you said, this can vary a lot depending on weather conditions and location )
Footwear ( can vary , just make sure it doesn't contain metal. trying to detect in steel toe boots is really annoying lol )
metal detector with headphones
pinpointer with a holster that goes on my belt
belt with pouch ( has two compartments, one for trash and one for good finds)
digger with holster that goes on my belt
Gloves
drop cloth ( to put dirt on when digging holes )
My Extra Gear ( Most of this stuff stays in my truck until needed )
I have a backpack that contains
spare batteries for pinpointer and detector
spare gloves
sunscreen
mosquito repellant
spare digger
rain gear
Drinks & snacks ( very important to stay hydrated on hot summer days )
Other gear depending on location
sandscoop for water hunting
chest waders for water hunting
mini shovel for wooded areas or farm fields
mini-headlight for night detecting
Well i think thats about all the gear that i use. and i hope this list can help you . Maybe others will comment with their set-ups.
thanks for the input. This is very helpful. I never thought of a drop cloth. I assume you use this when digging through your plugs? how big should it be? I am embarrassed to admit but I was expecting to wear steel toed boots! Also, where did you get your holsters for your belt?
Yeah steel toe boots while detecting are no fun..... E and Marc found that out the hard way Lol the holster came with the Garrett pinpointers. Yes the drop cloth is for the plug and if you happen to have to dig deeper that what your plug initially was.
here's a pic of the garrett belt/pouch i use. As matt said, the pinpointer and digger both came with a holster. For a drop cloth you can use an old dish towel ( approx 2ft x 2ft works) .
