:hi: Everyone!!
This weekend was one to remember!
I have Been Bugging my Dad to come detecting with me for awhile now, he finally gave in and decide to come along with me, so Friday night i picked him up after i was finished work and we made our way to the field. I gave him the shovel and told him he was my digger & we concentrated on the section of field where I had found my Civil War token, The pickings were slim and far apart but i was determined to at least find something interesting to show him how exciting detecting can be, 1h Passed still nothing but a button,so i ask him to point me in a direction and he points to this small shrub at the corner of someones lot along the farm field, so i start walking to it and BANG i get a steady signal, He digs the hole and out pops a large thin copper, Finally a coin! An 1820 Bust and Harp Token. :tu:
It was great to see his reaction, he had a great time and it was nice to spend time with him.
Saturday I spent with the Family,
Sunday i got up early and decided to head back to the field and grid the area i had hunted with my dad, this is an interesting field, with many small pockets of finds, found more relics than coins or buttons this time around which was a nice change.
My finds Included 2 Buckles, 3 Brooches, Part of a Spoon with a stamp on it, A Large Impacted 3 Ring Bullet, A candle Snuffer, 1 Flat Button and 2 Coins (1950 dime & 1831 Farthing)
The Farthing was a screamer! when i first dug it up I though I had a seated, :duh: Next time lol
It was a great day all and all can't complain when the finds are like this.
Monday I took the day off of work, I helped my Brother in the morning for a few hours and then proceeded to head to the field, I started detecting in the spot me and Marcj hit early this spring, it was slow going, we had covered the area fairly well but there s definitely still stuff to be found, it seems like I walked miles and got nothing, so I decided to Grid the area directly behind the Old House, about a 50x30ft section, soy row by soy row I walked , as I approached the edge of the field behind house I was finding little things here and there, Usual buttons (6), half a buckle, and something that looks like part of a candle stick, One of the more interesting Items was a little square piece of ornate copper, any clues? I also managed to find this Killer Broad Ax!!
the Button with a pattern is a 2pc but its so thin that i had not noticed till i got home
This button is Interesting as its a round ball
As I was finishing my grid I got this killer signal, so good in fact I thought it was a can top of a piece of melted aluminum, I proceeded to dig, Well never in a million year did I think I would find what I found. In this clump of dirt I was holding in my hand was this massive silver edge! Low and Behold This Victorian Behemoth!! It’s an 1845 British Crown!! They Only Minted 154 000 Of these, to my surprise its worth a pretty penny, It’s in amazing condition, the detail that is in this coin is impressive, the pictures do not do it justice, all the marks on it are simply tarnish, it does have a slight scrape on it and it was not my shovel as it was in a clump when I found it. Funny thing is that it was found not 5 feet from another hole from the previous days.
I called it a day shortly after that and went home a happy camper
Thanks for looking
Hope you all have a good day
