Hello Everyone!! :hello:
I Have been on holidays this past week and got out a few times and did some exploring and detecting at some fairly remote areas that used to have loyalist villages back before the hydro project flooded them out 60+ years ago. had to canoe about 1-2 km to get to one island but boy was it worth it!!
3 of us jumped into my little aluminium canoe and towed a rubber dingy behind us with all out gear, as we paddle you could see old fence lines, foundations, side walks, rail beds, all this is just a few feet beneath the waters surface, its an incredible sight, as we reaches the cluster of 3 islands that used to have village site number 1 you could see the remains of a foundation still on the island, it was fairly large building, there are still their leading down to the basement, (just to give you an idea this particular island is very small would take you less than a minute to walk around perimeter) sidewalks snaked around the island and into the river everywhere, between all of us we managed to get 3 Lc`s, 2 Fishies, 2 indian Heads, 1 wheat, and a pile of cool relics and glass,
my score was 2 LC`s 1 fishie And the wheat and a few cool relics :tu:
as we hunted the second island I noticed 2 people on the island we just were on, father and son, well sure as shit they were detecting, what are the odds,, lol I tried to strike a conversation with him but he did not seem interested, I told him we found 8 old coins and he seemed surprised, he told me he has been detecting this island for years and has only found a few coins, I think he was trying to protect his site. from what I could see he was using a beep and dig machine and no pinpointer,
I will be returning to this island soon in hopes of uncovering more of its secrets and treasures.
In The Middle of the week I visited another flooded ghost town , I did the same thing and hunted along the old sidewalks, I would flip the concrete over when I got a good signal, it payed off in the form of an 1857 Upper Canada token and this awesome medallion which I believe is masonic, Has anyone ever seen anything like this? its the second one that is found at this site,
on a side note I returned to my loyalist house where I found the 7 coins in 3 hours and found nothing else significant other than a dog tag from 1932.. :duh:
Last week I found this chunk of silver, whatever it was from must o been very ornate
Happy Hunting
